Grand Valley State University’s Art Education program is designed to equip its students to be excellent art educators, who have a mastery of both content and theoretical knowledge and studio skills and practices, and who are qualified not only to provide the most effective instruction in the classroom and studio, but to lead and serve in the community. The Art Education program promotes understanding of the arts and of culture; provides an environment which nurtures collaboration among students, faculty, and the community; and presents an integrated curriculum which emphasizes cultural production (with an emphasis on both traditional and multimedia technologies in artmaking), cultural critique, inquiry-based theory in K-12 studio practice, and special needs education.
